Welcome to the Wakefield District
Good Food Partnership

We are a collaborative network that brings together public agencies, businesses, community organizations, and individuals to address key issues within the local food system. Inspired by the Sustainable Food Places framework, we take a joined-up approach to tackle challenges like food poverty, health inequalities, climate impact, and waste, while also promoting good governance, sustainable economies, and community engagement.

By fostering cooperation across sectors, we aim to support strategic plans and actions that drive lasting positive change in how food is grown, transported, sold, bought, prepared, cooked, eaten and thrown away.

Our Charter

To transform the Wakefield district into a place where our food system does as much good as possible, and as little harm as possible to:

Our people - everyone has access to healthier, good quality, safe and affordable food.

Our prosperity - the district has a vibrant, thriving and diverse food economy that works for people as much as they work for it.

• Our planet - we have a food system that doesn’t harm biodiversity and the wider environment. We support the needs of today without limiting future generations.

To make this a reality, individuals and organisations in all parts of the Wakefield district will need to come together.

Good for People

• Ensuring everyone has access to good
quality, safe, affordable, healthier food.
• Encouraging more people to participate
in growing and cooking more of the food
they eat.
• Enabling all communities to have
access to resources that support them
to grow, cook and celebrate food.
• Supporting people to gain the skills and
knowledge they need to recognise, buy
and safely prepare good quality food.
That’s healthier and affordable.
• Recognising the diverse food cultures
and traditions present in the Wakefield
district.
• Working to tackle the causes of food
insecurity and inequalities.

economy. Encouraging the startup and

where possible. And ensuring any waste
is dealt with responsibly and sustainably.

eating of sustainable food that uses
less packaging and energy, and fewer
transport miles.

proportion of plant-based foods in their
meals.
